An update on 'Bar Italia – The Musical'

We’ve heard from Dave Stewart on the progress of  ’Bar Italia-The Musical’. Dave and his c0-writer Ian La Frenais (creator of Likely Lads/Porridge and Auf Weidershen Pet among others) are in the process of writing the piece and it’s based on the classic story of “La Familia”, centered around our little establishment in Frith Street, and their struggle to stay united.

Dave will be in London in March, ordering Cappuccino’s as usual whilst grilling us about more of the background of Bar Italia which was established in 1949 . He says the Musical moves through time and musical genres.

As well as this, Dave has the “Ghost- The Musical” opening in four weeks time at Manchester Opera House then in June at The Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End. Go to for details.

Also, Dave and Ringo Starr are having their musical “The Hole In The Fence” being made as a Feature Film in Los Angeles. Interesting times ahead…

Meet Vicky McLure

Anyone who watched ‘This Is England ’86′ last year will remember the character of ‘Lol’ played by Vicky McLure, it was a standout performance. We’re pleased to say Vicky is a regular at Bar Italia, whenever she is in London. Always a pleasure to see her and we wish her all the best in her future roles

Author Sarah Winman

Sarah is a regular at Bar Italia and her book ‘When God Was A Rabbit’ is getting a lot of press. Heres a recent review…’WHEN GOD WAS A RABBIT is an incredibly exciting debut from an extraordinary new voice in fiction. Spanning four decades, from 1968 onwards, this is the story of a fabulous but flawed family and the slew of ordinary and extraordinary incidents that shape their everyday lives. It is a story about childhood and growing up, loss of innocence, eccentricity, familial ties and friendships, love and life. Stripped down to its bare bones, it’s about the unbreakable bond between a brother and sister’

We at Bar Italia wish Sarah all the best with the book

The legend that is Tony Christie

We were delighted to have a Tony Christie photo shoot in Bar Italia late last year. It was all for his new album ‘Now’s The Time’ which is released by Acid Jazz on Monday 7th Feb. We were lucky enough to be sent a promo recently and it is a great collection of new songs, with Mr Christie in fine voice. Highly recommended!
